From July 7–10, 2024, the historic vineyards of Burgundy will welcome the 2025 Sino-European Wine & Tea Terroir Culture Summit, an unprecedented cultural event spotlighting Chinese wine and tea terroir traditions in the heart of French viticulture.
Held under the Sino-French agricultural cooperation agreement, and backed by world-renowned institutions including the International Association of Terroirs (AIT), the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), and the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB), the summit will serve as a dynamic platform for global dialogue and cooperation.
For the first time, Chinese terroir-driven wine and tea culture will take center stage in Burgundy—an iconic region synonymous with terroir excellence. With a mission to foster intercultural dialogue and elevate Chinese terroir brands globally, the summit signals a milestone in East-West collaboration.
A Historic Moment
In a landmark development, China and France formalized a Joint Agricultural Cooperation Statement in 2024, significantly advancing bilateral collaboration in the viticultural sector. Building upon the inaugural participation of distinguished Chinese wineries at the globally acclaimed Les Assemblies des Climats du Vins in November of the preceding year—a milestone facilitated by the Association Internationale des Terroirs (AIT)—this initiative represents the first high-caliber Sino-European symposium on wine industry collaboration and cultural exchange to be convened within a preeminent global wine region. This achievement, culminating from years of dedicated endeavors by TerroirSense Wine Review & Tastespirit, has garnered unprecedented multilateral endorsement from esteemed institutions including the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB), the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne, and the municipal government of Dijon. These entities have collectively pledged support for an annual Sino-French wine and tea cultural initiative, committing to institutionalize its annual convening.
A Global Stage
The summit will witness the participation of prominent figures and principal institutions from Burgundy—a region universally recognized as the epitome of terroir-driven viticulture—facilitating unparalleled discourse on terroir excellence and amplifying the global prominence of Chinese wines. Both China and Europe, as custodians of extraordinary terroir heritage and profound cultural legacies, share a mutual commitment to advancing viticultural innovation. Notably, Mr. Aubert de Villaine, Honorary President of the International Association of Terroirs (AIT) and esteemed co-proprietor of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, alongside leadership representatives from BIVB and AIT, has demonstrated resolute dedication to fostering China’s terroir wine industry. Under their guidance, Burgundy’s most distinguished vintners and Europe’s preeminent experts will engage in substantive dialogue and knowledge exchange.
Cultural Products and Brand Channels
In alignment with the shared Sino-French philosophy of terroir stewardship, TerroirSense Wine Review & Tastespirit to consolidate partnerships with China’s premier wineries and tea enterprises to establish a comprehensive brand promotion platform and premium distribution channels tailored for the French market. Analogous to Shanghai’s status as China’s most influential yet demanding consumer hub, France represents the apex of sophistication and competitiveness within Europe. Securing a strategic foothold in these pivotal markets will catalyze expansive outreach across broader Chinese and European territories. We hereby extend an invitation to collaborate in forging a mutually prosperous future, anchored in excellence and cross-cultural synergy.
